Don’t know, or never had a thought on this subject? Read on.
Automation or programmatic is not the “set-it-and-forget-it” solution most imagine it to be. Yet, it can still be a very useful and powerful method for attaining scale and efficiency in your business. The bright line between using automation as a “pipe-dream” machine and making it your power-performance tool is a proper set of software, thorough planning of systematic processes, and plenty of support from active online communities.
Let’s take a step back and see some examples of things we like to automate:
- Touch up, resize or create new images via Adobe or other software.
- Create systems which allow us to blog or post to social media and blogs via SMS.
- Get feeds of our favorite news sites, question forms, social streams in one Google Doc.
- Generate and create new reports for our clients every month.
- Send us notifications when there’s a funny GIF image we like in GIFFY….
- and SSOOOOOOO much more.
Having said that, can you think of a process you do over and over and over and over and over, which can probably be automated? Yep, pretty sure we all can. The good news is, you don’t have to be a programmer or pay tons of money to create software related to your personal needs. We’re hosting a Meetup on May 5th to share open techniques and software developed by communities of users, in hopes that everyone can benefit from this amazing skill.
During this meetup, we hope we can explore tips, tricks, advantages and disadvantages of Automation. Specific “types” we want to focus on involve these platforms:
• Mac Based – FakeApp, Keyboard Maestro, Automator, Applescript
• Every Device and OS – IFTTT, Infusionsoft, Google Apps Script, VBA.
- Also, there will be some discussion of advanced Object Scripting using JS, Ruby and more.
So, whether it be for purposes of email marketing, web scraping, social media maintenance, file organization, etc., we feel that every entrepreneur and business owner can greatly benefit from gathering in a like-minded, scale-seeking communities to share ideas. For those newer to the world of Automation, we’ll be sharing a bit of what we know during a brief 15min opening, then we can all break off into groups, online and in person, by topic/OS/understanding etc.
